Honorable Mention: Other Customizations
Other than the skins, you can change other things about Cortex or any other character. You can give him a hat—he even has a general hat with a ‘N’ on it—a bag, change the shadow icon below you or the special effect that happens when you store Wumpa.
These are also shared by all characters, so if Cortex gets a hat, everyone else gets it too. But Cortex also has a gun, and like the skins, the gun can be changed in its own way.
For example, a clown skin and a toy gun are a fun way to go around and beat up your enemies. With these choices, you can do a lot of different things.
Science Of Style
It looks like Cortex but is orange and green. Aside from the different textures of his clothes, all that’s changed is the color, giving him the style that his name suggests. Overall, it’s not a big change, but if you like these colors, it looks good.
If you want it for yourself, you need Hero experience, which means you need to play as Cortex a lot. When you hit level 12 with him, you can get it.
Captain Cortex
Captain Cortex is another case of colors being switched, and this time there is even more orange. Orange and purple look good together, and the colors are brighter on this skin than they were on the last one. Purple hair also looks good on Cortex.
How to get this skin is the same as how to get Science of Style. But you need to play a bit more with our evil Booster because you need to get to level 15 to get Captain Cortex.
Data Doctor
All of the original figures in Crash Team Rumble have the same type of skin, which is low-poly and blocky. Some of them look better than others. Cortex, in particular, is a good fit because he looks very funny (in a good way) and has a square head like he used to.
He is also one of the few people who kept his eyebrows, which makes him look even funnier.
All blocky skins, including this one, are available to people who bought the game’s Deluxe Edition. You also get some low-poly cosmetic items for Cortex, like a hat, a backpack, and even a gun.
Negative
A good idea doesn’t always have to be hard to understand. Even though this is also a color swap and is even easier than the others, it looks good.
As the name suggests, he wears mostly white clothes, but his skin is purple, so the colors are switched.
And compared to the others, it’s also easier to get. You also have to play as Cortex, but only until level 6. Once that is done, you own the skin.
Dr. Neo Cortex
Even so, the main outfit is already pretty good. Cortex’s main look is the same as it was in Crash 4. That was already a great look for the character, giving him a modern look while keeping the cartoony roots of the series.
This skin is already part of the character, so all you have to do is unlock him. You do this by getting Booster badges as you play. If you play as another Booster, like Happy Wheels, you can do that quickly.
Cortex The Clown
Cortex the Clown is a nod to his past as a stage clown, where he and his family came from before he killed everyone. Here, he keeps his main traits but wears a different outfit and has clown makeup put on his face.
Oh, and he changed his hair, which gave him the full look.
You don’t have to level up your Hero to get this skin. Instead, you have to play through Season One’s fight pass.
You don’t have to go too far into it to unlock it, so it’s still easy to do. Also, don’t forget to open the toy gun.
Cybernetic
We’ve had enough silly skins for Cortex. Now it’s time to make him look like a threat, like he deserves to be the end boss of so many games.
So, if you want skin, here it is. Cybernetic gives him a strong cyberpunk vibe by changing his clothes to a nice-looking jacket and adding cybernetics to his face. The letter ‘N’ is also different because it is in the skin instead of being on it.
Oh, and on the back, you can see his brain, which is creepy.
This skin is also part of the Season 1 fight pass, but you have to be level 90 to get it, so it’s a little harder. But because of how it looks, it’s worth going after, especially if you like playing as Cortex.
